Big Hearted Broadway Musical, Side Show, performs at Butte College

October 26 – November 4

What happens when conjoined twins consider leaving their circus side show to take their one chance at the big time and on love? Based on the true story of conjoined (‘Siamese’) twins Daisy and Violet Hilton, who became stars during the Depression, Side Show, is a heartwarming musical about two women who are joined at the hip and how their literal bondage brings them fame, but will they find love? Featuring such beautiful songs as “I Will Never Leave You,” the show follows their progression from England to America, around the vaudeville circuit to Hollywood on the eve of their appearance in the 1932 movie, “Freaks”. The ensemble includes characters like the 3 Legged Man, Dog Boy, Lizard Man, the Bearded Lady, as well as Harry Houdini.

Side Show opens Friday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m., with performances continuing Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, October 28 at 2 p.m., Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m., and closes on Sunday, November 4 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for seniors/students, plus EventBrite fees. Tickets are available at the door or via: http://www.ButteDrama.com. For more information, call 530-895-2994 or email Jesse Merz, director, at merzje@airllevant.com. Performances take place at the Butte College Black Box Theatre, Main Campus, ARTS Building, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, Oroville, CA 95965. Side Show is a little eerie and spooky and is recommended for ages 11 and up.

“Side Show reminds us of what really matters about each of us, and that’s what’s inside. Butte College has assembled a super talented cast and this story moves me. Side Show soars and sings and takes the audience on a journey behind the scenes in show business. The show reminds us that deep down, we are all unique, and we are all freaks,” said Butte’s Theatre Arts Instructor, Jesse Merz.

Side Show features book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Henry Krieger with additional book material by Bill Condon. Butte College’s production features a set designed by Robert Pickering, lighting designed by Michael Johnson, costumes by Lynne Schuepbach, sound designed by Davin Schreindl, stage manager is Ray Walters, choreography by Melinda Buzan, musical direction by Christine Buckstead, and directed by Butte’s Theatre Arts Instructor, Jesse Merz.
